Spurs and me!

On Father's Day this year I was so excited when I received a ticket to the Vodacom Challenge Final. The reason for my joy.... Spurs!!!!! Yes, my team. They were coming to South Africa to play in the tournament.

I had seen them play before in the very same tournament back in 2007, and had made a trip to White Heart Lane in London (Spurs home ground) back in 2009. Now two years later, Spurs back in SA. Hmmmm, seems like things work in 2 year cycles.... I wonder what could be on the cards in 2013 then???


It was great on the day, as they brought out quite a strong squad, as this was all pre-season stuff for them. I got to see the likes of EPL footballer of the year, Bale, Modric, Crouch and Defoe to name but a few. One never knows when you will have the opportunity to see them play live again, so you just try and soak everything up, as much of it as you can.
I had an awesome day!!!! Thanks to my wife and my boys for an awesome gift and opportunity! I don't think you all know how much I enjoyed it and appreciated it.

My Wife

The common thread in all the pics above... yip... the glue in our family, the one who is always worried about everyone else before herself, the one who has put up with all of the crap that I

have given her, and it has been a load in the past year! The one who makes sure we are fed, clothed, get to work and school on time . The best Mom that any child could hope for, and I have three children who can bare witness to that!

And I am so proud to call her my wife!

Kyle

As any 17 year old, Kyle has a mind of his own and knows everything. No... it's not that bad really. He also loves being outdoors, maybe not as much as lying on his bed and reading a book though. One thing that could get him off his bed is tennis. He loves playing tennis. He is also very good with his little brothers.

Adam

Adam, the mischievous one in the family!!! As I am typing this post, he has come to me with his remote control car and tells me it's not working. That is because he has cut the wire joining the car to the remote... Need I say more? Adam loves being barefoot and outdoors. He also enjoys his bike, but if there is sand to dig in and play with, then he will be there. The youngest in the family and loves sweets. He could, (or IS living) live on sweets and baby porridge, and the occassional pizza! Stubborn has a whole new meaning.... but he is precious none the least, I mean look at that face.

Devon

Devon is in Grade 1 this year and is totally loving school. He loves doing his work and is reading like a real star. Sometimes he drives his Mom and Dad crazy with all the questions about how to spell certain words. That mind is continually working. Swimming and riding his bike are more of his favourite this to do. Once in the water, it is very dificult to get him out... I keep looking for those gills!

Lunar Eclipse

So, two nights ago we experienced a lunar eclipse. There is something special about this. Once again nature shows us one of it's splendors.

Time flies by...

I can"t believe that time flies by so quickly!

Over a year has passed since the last post... and out of the blue last night my wife says to me that I should start blogging again. This got me thinking back to how much time I used to spend blogging and how much fun I had thinking about what I was going to blog about.

Life moves so fast and we get so busy, and before long you have stopped doing the things you enjoy and forget about what is really important to you! So, I think I am going to make a concerted effort to get back to blogging and focus on the things that really mean the most to me that I have neglected over the past year.

Still alive!

Yes folks I'm still alive
Just haven't gotten round to the blogging thing.... excuses, excuses... I know.

All has been well in Miller land. Little Adam has started his play school, Devon is in the giraffe class at his pre-school (grade 0) and Kyle has started grade 10. We all have hit the year running and it seems like there is no slowing down.

My better half is as busy as usual. We pass each other every now and then! Jokes, it's not that bad.

Spurs seem to be doing better this season, I think I may have spoken too soon!

Comrades is on the cards as well as Two Oceans, so I'm trying my damndest to get in as much training as possible.

December was GREAT! An awesome rest and a wonderful holiday! Just what the doctor ordered!!!!

mmm... no more news just yet, hopefully get back into it again soon.

The monthly update...

Well that is what it seems to be at the moment. Things have been extremely busy everywhere, at work and at home.

I managed to run a little over the last month, but still not as much as I need to, but hey it has been busy.

School holidays have come and gone and it is the final stretch of the school year. During the school holidays we spent a week in Hazyview. It was totally awesome, and we have not been there in about two years. Staying just outside of the park(Kruger National Park) we drove in for the day. It was Adam's first time, and he got a chance to see Ellies and Giraffe up close. Devon just loves the park, outdoors, and holidaying! He was in seventh heaven all of the time.

The goings on...

A short post to keep you up to speed on what's been going on in Miller Land lately...

Time has been flying by... and I have been playing catch up all the time.

I entered Comrades 2010 about a week ago, so now all I need to do is put my A into G and get on the road and start some serious training at some point. A bit too early to set the goals, at this point it is just a finish and being able to walk afterwards. That would be good!

Kyle has had to choose his subjects for next year. He's going with Maths, Science, Life Sciences(Biology) and Geography. It's going to be interesting to say the least.

Lindsay is working as hard as ever... writting reports for the end of term as we speak.

Devon is still talking the hind leg off of a donkey. The chirps are just getting bigger and better. Soccer season has ended and swimming has started again.

Adam has sprouted a couple more teeth, still not too many words, but oh is he a character!!!!!

Something to look forward to.... going to Sabie River Sun for the upcoming holidays, and a wine tasting on Tuesday.

The Result...

The Spring Hat competition is over for another year. In my last post I attached a picture of this years effort.

I am happy, and Devon even more so to report, that we won. That makes it 2 out of three entries... the preasure is on already for next year.... any ideas....

Spring time again...

Spring has sprung the grass has riz, or however it goes. Spring is here and it is the good 'ol Spring Hat time at Devon's school. Tomorrow is the day when he has to, along with his school pal's, parade his spring hat. This means that every year we have to get the creative juices flowing and come up with some kind of spring hat...

So here it is... this year contribution...

Volvo powered by Ford!

So last Thursday I come around the corner after picking Kyle up from tennis, and I am confronted by a road that is filled with people and cars. I look a little closer and notice that the majority of the cars are stsanding right in front of my driveway. Furthermore, some of the cars are ambulances and tow trucks. Panic starts to set in a little and I park the car and stsart heading on foot to my house. As I weave throught he cars and passers by, I notice my wife's car is parked in the oncoming traffic with hazard lights on and nobody is is the car. Lying on my pavement is a body that the paramedics are working on. My heart starts to race, my legs start to move faster, and I realise that I am now running. It is an aweful feeling that starts to fill up my body and my mind...

On further investigation I discover that the body on the pavement is okay, and best of all, not that of my wife.

There had been an accident right outside our house. A Ford Territory had collided with a Volvo head on, 70m away from our house at the robots. The Volvo was at a stand still at the robots waiting to turn when this Ford came across the intersection and collected the Volvo. The driver of the Volvo says he remembers not seeing anyone in the Ford behind the wheel or in the passenger seat. He car was powered by the Ford and forced back for 70m until it mounted the pavement and hit a tree. The wheels of the Ford continued spinning causing a whole lot of smoke. My wife had come home and sort of witnessed the event. She had to drive through this thick smoke and stopped her car in oncoming traffic to avoid further trouble.

The driver of the ford must of had a fit and fallen unconcious and steered his car unknowingly into the Volvo. I am happy to report that both drivers were uninjured with not even a scratch on the bodies. The driver of the Ford regain consciousness before being taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital.

I'm just relieved that everyone was okay at the end of the day, most especially my wife...

a FREEZING weekend...

This weekend was probably the coldest weekend I've had in a long time. I don't think I can remember it being that cold anytime before. Perhaps it's the age thing. You feel the cold more as you age. That can't be it though as I would then have to admit that I am ageing. Whatever it was, it was freezing. The highest I saw my cars temperature gauge go was 8 degrees, and that was at about half past two.....what it didn't show was the wind chill factor. I think it wiped out the eight degrees and some....

It was so cold and to top it off the rain came down on and off the whole day. Nothing like wet cold weather. It was so cold that the rain that had fallen on the trampoline froze. The pic was taken at about 2 in the afternoon....

One month...

So a month has past since my last post. Not intentional, I promise! Things have been busy and uncontrollable circumstances.... let's leave it at that!

In the last month I have been involved in the end of term exams (if you can remember those), just ive been on the marking end which takes a little of my time, and a holiday to the Cape. No access there! I actuallty feel a little guilty about not posting for so long. Especially when you get comments on FB about not posting. I'll take that as a compliment, as that means that someone actually takes the time out of their day to read what you write. Thanks Ninnles!

The trip to the Cape was totally what I needed. I love the Cape!

I drove down, and comoing back was no fun... a flat tyre and 17 and a half hours later was no fun. Needless to say starting work the very next morning!

I also got a chance to see Man City play live. One of our local sides, made them look rather ordinary. I know it's pre-season, but with all of that money backing you, you better win a funny little tournament in SA.

Today was a great winters day on the highveld. Morning crisp with pleasant sunny midday temperatures. Ideal for a family braai, and a chance for the kids to play outside!

For those that are interested I need to make more time on the PC to blog and not work!

Super Busy having Super times...

The past two weeks have been awesome as far as activities and extra work activities goes...

Two Saturday's ago I got a call late in the afternoon from a mate, asking if i wanted to go off road biking on the Sunday? A no brainer! I accepted after checking with the department of home affairs. All was good!I hadn't ridden bike since I was a teen, so the nerves came back in the beginning, but near the end and around 5 or 6 turns at eating dust in a big way and 1 count of getting stuck in a bog, i started to get the hang of it. I slept very well that evening!!! I awoke the next morning, and a couple of mornings (+/- 6) after with a stiff neck and sore muscles. A good workout.

I also got the opportunity to watch two matches of the Confederation's Cup live! The first being the game against USA and Italy and the second being Brazil vs USA. (No not the final). Both awesome experiences though. If this is an indication, then the 2010 World Cup is going to be absolutely amazing!

I finished work today for the school holiday's, well almost, just three day's of winter school for the matrics next week and then I'm done. Then a two week break in the Cape! That is enough to make anyones day, week, month or year if you know the Cape!

The Boks played the B&I Lions in the first test, and beat them... Go Bokke!
The emerging Boks played to a draw against the B&I Lions in the same week!
The Boks play the second test tomorrow.. gonna win again!
Bafana Bafana made the Semi-Finals of the Confederation's Cup and truelly did us proud! Losing 1-0 to a full strength Brazilian outfit in the 88th minute is NO disgrase! the sound coming out of the stadium when the South African National Anthem was sung could only have given you goose bumps!

Still alive...

Yes people, all six followers, I am still alive!

Time just seems to be flying by. I have neglkected this blogging thing over the past few weeks and have not mentioned much about my overseas trip to the UK, which I've been back a month from already. Time just honestly seems to be flying by.

The trip was absolutely awesome!!!!! I really had a great time. Wales was great, all the places we saw were great! I enjoyed seeing Wales though, I was surprised by what I saw. I didn't expect that at all. Edinburgh is also an awesome city, another place I enjoyed visiting and spending far too little time at. Ninnles, you are definately lucky to be living their at the moment.

I got a chance to catch up with one of my good school mates while in London. Stephen, thanks for an awesome time at the little pub up the road. (Not that Stephen reads my blog). I'll post some photo's sometime.

The Confederation Cup starts this weekend, and will be attending a game or two next week - totally looking forward to this....

Weekend Bliss....

It's Sunday evening and I've finally managed to sneak in 10 minutes in between my wife's facebook sessions.

This weekend was something really different.... and most enjoyable. The best of all worlds roled into one weekend. Friday after work we headed off to our local pizza joint to meet the family and start the chill.

Saturday was up early as Devon was playing a 9:30 am football game. That was good -Devon seems to be getting it. He was far more involved this week and set up the first goal!!!! BIG STEPS! His team won 2 - 0. Then it was off to Devon's School's 50th Birthday celebration Funday. He had loads of fun jumping on the jumping castles! Once we had spent an hour there we had to rush off to his friend, Cole's birthday party. Lindsay took control of this and I got to sit and relax at home with Kyle and Adam. This was opportunity to enjoy the first match of the LIONS tour to SA. Once they returned from the party we made our way to some of our friends to watch the final of the Super 14. The Bulls gave the Chiefs a rather BIG smack.

Sunday was all about relaxing and spending time at home. The in-laws are on their way to Cape Town for a week to sort out the holiday home. I wish it was me on my way down there. It is a hell of a drive, but well worth it when you get there! We had lunch at home, just the 5 of us, and then just played with the kids, helped with a little homework and just chilled! It is going to be an early night snuggled up in front of the TV with my wife.
